A Statistical Study on Arrhythmia
Kim Myung-Sik

Abstract
A statistical study was done on arrhythmias found in 45, 167 tracings taken on 40, t 00 patients subjected to electmcardiographic examinations during period 1963-1972 at Seoul Nationa University Hospital and results were as follows:
1) Arrhythmias were observed in 15,968 cases of the 40, 000 patients. The most frequent arrhythmias were sinus irregularities, including sinus tachycardia, sinus bradycardia, and sinus arrhythmia, which accounted for 44.47% of total arrhythmias.
2) Except sinus irregularities, 8, 867 arrhythmias were divided into the conduction dist rbances of 2, 835 cases and the impulse formation disorders of 6, 032 cases. In these groups of arrhy hmias, the more common arrhythmias, representing over 1% of the 40, 000 patients, were premature peat, atrial fibrillation, bundle branch block, atrioventrieular. heart block, paroxysmal , tachycardia, wandering pacemaker, atrioventricular junctional-escape beat,¢¥ andatrioventricular junctional rhythm accounting for 26.67%, 18.20%, =16.90%, 11.49%, 4.94%,¢¥ 4.70%, 4.64% and 4.26% of total arrhythmias, respectively. The rare arrhythmias, under ,0.5% of 40,000 patients, were atrioventricular dissociation, pre-excitation syndrome,, atria] flutter, idioventricular rhythm, sino-atrial block, ventricular fibrillation, and-parasystole; accounting for 7.23% of total arrhythmias in summation.
3) In the cardiovascular group, the incidence of arrhythmia was 42. 96%, whereas that in the noncardiovascular group and the probably normal group were 12.02% and 10.27%, respactively.
4) Arrhythmias were seen most frequently over the fifth decades except incomplete right bundle branch block and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, which were- most common in the first and second decades.
5) In male the incidence of -arrhythmias was more frequent than in female but pre-excitation syndrome which was predisposed in women.
6) Arrhythmias were observed most frequently in rheumatic valvular disease. - Especiall , . ¢¥atria]
fibrillation and, premature beat were most commonly found in the rheumatic valvular disease. schemic heart disease and hypertensive heart disease were also -frequent in following order.
7. Conduction disturbances occured more frequently in ischemic and hypertensive heart diseases than rheumatic valvular disease.
8) In the non-cardiovascular group, renal disease, drug intoxication, metabolic disease, gastroindestinal disease, hepatic disease, and respiratory disease were not infrequent underlying diseases of arrhythmias.
